Case Study
HCL Infosystems implements first-ever converged communication network between Indian Army, Navy and Air Force
Challenge
- Instant, seamless and secure access to information for our Armed forces
- Recent security issues have reinforced the need for collaboration of our Defense Forces on a secure tri-services network
- Geographical diversities and & climatic extremes in various locations across India
Solution
- HCL Infosystems has enabled the design, development and deployment of Defence Communication Network (DCN)
- The network has been entirely designed and developed in India
- HCL Infosystems has designed & deployed Transportable Satellite Terminal for this project
- DCN is a strategic, highly secure and scalable system
- DCN acts as the converged network providing voice, data and video services to users at the Corps and Command Headquarters and strategic installations of the three Forces
- Makes voice data and video data accessible to the three services over a secured network
- Capable of working on both terrestrial as well as satellite modes of communication
- The Network covers many diverse and difficult terrains across the country
- Deploys a state-of-the-art IP/MPLS architecture that enables secure end-to-end exchange of triple play services to the users
Impact
- On 30 June 2016, DCN – the first tri-Service communication and IT network of the Armed Forces – was deployed
- The network has pan India reach across difficult terrains though the breadth of the country
- DCN will transcend inter service boundaries and provide reliable communications to the strategic elements of the three services pan-India
- The DCN will considerably improve the flow of inter service and intra service information for all the three forces
- Enhanced communications will in turn improving situational awareness, enabling better informed decisions
Key HIighlights
- The DCN was dedicated to the nation by Shri Manohar Parrikar, the Hon’ble Raksha Mantri, Government of India
- The state-of-the-art, fully secure DCN is the single largest enterprise-wide satellite network in the Indian Defense Forces, spread across the country
- DCN is a major step towards ensuring Network Centricity across the three Services, IDS and SFC
- This integrated communication architecture between the Army, Navy and Air Force bolsters the prowess of the Defence forces during both critical operations and rescue missions
- HCL Infosystems’ 40 years of journey has been marked by technology innovations, entrepreneurship and contribution to nation building
- Exemplary implementation of the first Tri-Service network of the Armed Forces realizes the vision of ‘Digital India’
- Pan India network footprint – network coverage across hinterland, islands, desert, plains and mountains
- Multiple state-of-the-art protocol convergence with seamless triple play services
