HCL Infosystems Ltd, India’s premier information enabler, leading ICT system integrator and Distribution Company will implement the IT infrastructure part of the Pan Africa project which will connect 53 African countries into one network, providing electronic and knowledge connectivity to the African countries. An initiative by Indian government to share its expertise in the fields of Education and Medicine, this network will benefit all the 53 African nations by providing Tele-Education, Tele-Medicine, Video-conferencing and VOIP services.

 

With its implementation this project will connect 53 African countries into one network, providing electronic and knowledge connectivity to the African nations. Apart from this, the network will connect all 53 Heads of States of the African Continent; the communication would be through data, Voice and Video.

 

Facilitating education and knowledge sharing, the network will connect 7 universities from India with 5 universities from Africa; the African centers will further be linked to one centre in each of 53 countries with-in the continent. The network will also connect 12 Super Specialty Hospitals from India with 5 from Africa. These Hospitals in Africa will further be linked to one remote hospital (Patient-End Locations) in each of the 53 countries as apart of the project to extend healthcare services to rural Africa.

 

The project will support the growth and development of African countries. Addressing the recently concluded the World Economic Forum in Africa, Mr. Ajai Chowdhry, Chairman & CEO of HCL Infosystems Limited, shared his insights on the role Internet and ICT can play in Africa’s infrastructure & rural development. I believe there is huge potential for increasing the pace of development in Africa by usage of IT by Governments, Institutions, including Small & Medium Enterprises and citizens.”

Tele-medicine
This project initiated by the Government of India, would connect 17 super specialty hospitals giving specialized medial advice and support to 53 remote patient locations, which will serve as specialized hubs to treat patients.

 

These remote hospitals will be fully equipped with the medical equipments such as ECG, X-Ray and Ultra-Scan in each location. Tele-medicine hardware, camera, Software will help to manage, store and forward the medical records of the patients and will also analyze, digitally signed prescription and advice to the remote patients as an integrated package. Data centre will be deployed to manage and maintain the records for storage and backup, and retrieval mechanism for the medical facilities will be provided at the each super specialty hospital.

 

17 Super Specialty Hospitals will have the capability to provide the Continuing Medical Education (CME), Training to Nurses, Paramedical staff and other health workers in the 53 remote locations using the network. The network configuration will support 2 CME sessions and 8 telemedicine sessions at a time.

 

Tele-Education
In India, 7 tele-education studio’s shall be set up with post-production setup. Teachers can interact with the selected students LIVE in a sequence and also simultaneously will be able to team up with them using the collaborative tools. 53 learning centers will act as a virtual class rooms for the remote centers and also may be network-enabled for further expansion into the other parts of the country. Expansion of the network to the other locations through adding more VSAT terminals as well as broadband, wireless connectivity will be possible by adding additional elements and bandwidth.
