  • To implement a state wide solution for Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB)
  • Another System Integration project bagged by HCL Infosystems under its Power vertical
  • HCL Infosystems to deploy Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing Application Software with dedicated reporting for rapid & accurate decision making

HCL Infosystems Ltd, India’s premier Hardware, Services and ICT System Integration Company today announced the awarding of the Rs. 100cr (approx.) Re-structured Accelerated Power Development and Reform Program (RAPDRP) order from the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB). The project will entail deployment of a state wide solution to establish the baseline data and IT applications for energy accounting/auditing and IT based consumer service centers in 14 towns, comprising of 30 Sub Division offices and 293 other offices.

HCL Infosystems will be setting up a Disaster Recovery Center, and also modernise the existing Data Center along with creating a Wide Area Network. Apart from the implementation of the real time automated meter reading system (AMR). This project will further help HPSEB in rapid and accurate decision making towards power procurement, understanding the gaps in day to day operations. The implementation will also involve a seamless integration with systems like SAP, CRM, Billing, GIS. With the deployment, HCL Infosystems will be further strengthening the Electricity Distribution System Infrastructure of HPSEB and implementing measures to curb losses e.g. e.g. the aggregate technical and commercial losses reported by HPSEB in 2007-08 were 15.82%.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Rajeev Asija, Executive Vice President, System Integration & International Business said “HCL Infosystems has been committed to the India market and always takes pride in taking on projects that will define the India of tomorrow. It gives me great satisfaction to see our once envisioned phenomenon of System Integration, over the period incubated by HCL Infosystems, today changing the face of every sector. Power is a very important subject and the movement started by the RAPDRP will completely transform the Electricity Distribution System in the country reducing losses and adding greater efficiency. This being our second win in the space after the similar project won in Rajasthan testifies for our understanding and leadership in setting up IT based solutions for such critical projects in the country.”

The highlight of this project is the design and creation of the Data mining and warehousing environment. World class business intelligence tools like Query and Report, On Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) and Data Mining etc. will be configured and data stores created in the framework of the Data Warehouse. The data on which BI Tools will be used, requiring data from different source applications and systems. The Extraction, Transformation and Loading (ETL) Tools will be used to extract, transform data to establish a common format, scrub and homogenize data, summarize and aggregate data before loading into Data Warehouse.

This integrated system would help establishing integrated IT solution for meter reading, billing and collection, energy auditing & accounting for collection of accurate data and monitoring of loss reduction performance of HPSEB thereby increasing efficiency of its employees. This would also lead to improved customer satisfaction and revenue collection, thereby making the utility self sustainable in the long run. Electricity consumers in Himachal Pradesh will also have online self services for wider benefits.

The company in 2009 won India’s first RAPDRP project from the state of Rajasthan for over Rs. 500cr.
