HCL Infosystems, India’s premier information enabling company, maintained its number one position in the Desktop PC segment for the year 2004 in both commercial and consumer segment making it the most preferred PC brand in the country. According to the recent IDC report, HCL leads the market ahead of the two MNCs, with a market share of 13.7 %, up from 9.2% in the year 2003.

In comparison with Q4 of 2003 to Q4 of 2004, HCL’s market share increased from 10.6 % to 16.6%, a whopping growth of 103 %. In this period, HCL sold 146125 units, 46.4 % higher than the nearest MNC competitor

.

In the consumer PC market, HCL sold 139214 units. HCL’s market share increased from 4.9% in 2003 to 12.8% in 2004, thus relegating the nearest MNC to second spot and became numero uno in consumer PCs for the Year 2004. In the last quarter of 2004, HCL clocked a growth of over 300%as against Q4 of 2003.

 

In commercial PC segment, which comprises of 66.5 % of total Desktop PC market, HCL sold over 3.04 lakh units in the year 2004. In this segment, HCL’s market share increased to 14.2 % in 2004 from 11.2 % in 2003. Here too in Q4 of 2004, HCL registered an impressive growth of 60 % over Q4 of 2003.

 

“HCL has emerged as a preferred brand by enterprises for their mission critical operations but also is a brand of choice by home users. The reports from industry experts affirm our knowledge of the consumers need and our distribution strengths”, concluded Mr Paul.

 

Some of the prestigious orders bagged by HCL Infosystems Enterprise business are from the State Bank of Saurashtra, the State Bank of Hyderabad, the Department of Posts, the Ministry of Defence, the Indian Overseas Bank, TeleDNA, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Sun Pharmaceuticals and CRISIL to name a few. HCL also won a very prestigious order from the Punjab Department of School Education to install and maintain the IT Infrastructure in 1,287 government schools both in rural and urban areas across the state of Punjab as part of this project.

 

On the consumer PC front the company launched several new models and initiated a large consumer contact drive to scale up the volumes during the festive season.

 

Earlier this year HCL broke the price barrier yet again, making branded PCs more affordable than ever before. The company has announced the launch of a new PC ‘EzeeBee Pride’ that will be available at a very affordable price of Rs. 12,990.

 

The company also announced a groundbreaking platform with the launch of Four Terminal PC – One PC which offers multiple user system. Available in the HCL Infiniti range of PCs, the new desktop solution will allow the PCs efficiently utilize their computational power to be shared by many users.
